There are many ways to join Helsinki Roller Derby! Firstly, we would recommend keeping your eyes open on our Facebook -page and the recent posts on these webpages for upcoming Open Skates and other public events if you want to try out skating with quad skates and learning more about us and the sport.

To become a skater you must complete HRD’s Freshmeat Training Program (FTP). Helsinki Roller Derby holds FTP a few times each year, usually one in fall and one in spring. FTP lasts approximately 2,5 months and in that time you will learn all the basic skills that you need to lay the foundation of your roller derby career! The timing of our FTPs varies so to find out when our next one is being planned you can send us an e-mail to freshmeat [at] or keep your eyes glued to our Facebook -page and website. To take part in the FTP you must be 18 years of age or older.

You can find out more about our latest FTP on Freshmeat -page and check out the Frequently Asked Questions.

We welcome new junior skaters in the beginning of season in August and in January. Our juniors are 10 to 17 years old. We try to offer suitable training for different ages and skill levels! You can contact us by e-mailing to juniorit (at)

You can also join HRD as an official. We have regular practises for officials and a scrimmage game every week, so you can really master the art with us! To learn more, just contact us at info (at)

If you don’t want to skate or officiate, you can also join us as a volunteer. We are mighty fun bunch of people to hang with and we have plenty of cool stuff to do! If you are interested, send an e-mail to info (at) telling us about yourself and we’ll find something for you to do!
